History of the Nike SWOOSH
December 15, 2009

You think you’re being underpaid for your design work? Well maybe this’ll cheer you up, Carolyn Davidson, a graphic design student at Portland State University got suckered into creating the Nike “Swoosh” logo for $35 in 1971. As we all know, it became possibly the most iconic logo EVER. At the time the logo was created, the person who commissioned it was quoted as saying “I don’t love it, but it will grow on me”. But I guess it all worked out in the end because over 10 years later, Nike gave her a diamond ring with the “swoosh” engraved on it and an envelope full of an undisclosed amount of stock. Davidson retired 2000 and now engages in “hobbies and volunteer work”… my kinda lifestyle.
