RIP FatBeats NYC

“Your favorite restaurants and favorite stores, they tore ’em down, Turn ’em into shopping malls the hood is like a ghost town.” (c) Nas
After 16yrs of being opened the legendary FatBeats NYC/LA is no more. It is definitely a sad day in the hiphop community. One of the first places you could think of that you can buy any hiphop underground or not album was FatBeats. I mean they carried EVERYTHING on CD & vinyl. On any given day you could find a legendary DJ or Emcee in there copping some vinyl or other artist’s music. Lets not forget their famous instores. FatBeats was one of those NY landmarks that were still around from the “Old New York” era. Inside all on the walls you could see signed flicks of emcees like Mobb Deep, Common, Gangstarr, EPMD, Talib, Mos Def, Rakim, Nas, the Whole DuckDown, Wu-Tang, i mean i can go on and on mentioning names. It will truely be missed.
“The closing of Fat Beats is just like one of my friends passing away. They promoted vinyl at its highest degree for the culture of good music and that makes it more difficult to say goodbye.” DJ Premier
