Kanye banned in the USA

October 18, 2010

Well not exactly.  More like his cover art for My Dark Twisted Fantasy.  The cover art work was done by contemporary American painter/sculptor George Condo who also did the art work for the Power single. The cover art depicts a nude, demonically grimacing West reclining on a blue couch and gripping a green bottle while a naked winged woman with a polka-dotted tail straddles him (see below). As you can imagine, Kanye did not take that lightly and had a few things to say via his twitter.

Here are some of his posts regarding the ban:   http://twitter.com/kanyewest/status/27680399588    http://twitter.com/kanyewest/status/27685422810 http://twitter.com/kanyewest/status/27685422810  and my personal favorite of his rant: http://twitter.com/kanyewest/status/27699024106 .

It is believed West is being advised against using the artwork by his label, as it may not be stocked by US chain stores like Wal-Mart. However, Latimes.com reports a source at the label saying the rapper-producer has been told “if he wanted to do it, the label would stand behind him”. If you ask me, just sounds like the usual b.s. politics that happen on the regular over at the corporate machine. I honestly like the cover & think they should let him use it. Yeezy is definitely no stranger to controversy, from his  “George Bush dont like black people” statement, to making fashion statements. I guess thats what draws us to him, he is one of the more interesting characters of pop culture.

“I wanna sell albums but not at the expense of my true creativity. ” (C) KANYE WEST
